Flower Mound Fire Station number 2 at FM1171 and Shiloh Road, the site of a condemnation lawsuit against the town, which the town has appealed to the Texas Court of Appeals.
      Mockingbird Pipeline, L.P., filed a condemnation lawsuit against the Town of Flower Mound in January of this year for a thirty foot natural gas pipeline easement across Fire Station No. 2 property, located at FM1171 and Shiloh Road. The Town has vigorously resisted that effort and last Friday Denton County Probate Judge Don Windle ruled that his court has jurisdiction to hear the case.

Denton District Attorney Paul Johnson sat for an interview in The News Connection office a few weeks ago, before winning a second term in Tuesday’s Primary Election.
     “Well, it looks like we have a full head of steam as we move into the fall elections,” said 26th District Congressman Michael Burgess as he was on his way to DFW Airport for a flight back to the nation’s capital. “I’m very grateful for the support that was evident in the Primary Election vote,” added the Republican representative running for his fifth term.

     For Flower Mound Place 3 Councilmember Mike Wallace, the task of completing a years worth of municipal training and educational courses was a challenge worth undertaking if it would help him to better serve his community. The Texas Municipal League (TML) recognized Wallace’s 2009 educational efforts in February at the Elected Officials’ Conference in El Paso. When Wallace took office in May 2009, he attended a TML workshop for newly-elected council members and learned about the organization’s educational institute.

     The Marquettes earned Super Sweepstakes, Best in Class for Pom and Kick, Highest scoring Kick routine of the day, Highest precision points in the Extra large size division, Outstanding technique, Outstanding choreography for Pom and Kick, the Crowd Pleaser award for Pom, Grand Champion in their Class, Highest scoring routine of the entire day for their kick, and Highest Overall Scoring Team of the day.  This made them the Grand Champion Team of the entire event out of 39 teams!

Maxine Ussery - November 7, 1913 – February 28, 2010    
    Maxine Ussery, a life member of Texas P.T.A. and a member of the Retired Teachers, Eastern Star and Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, passed away Sunday Morning at the Carriage House in Denton Texas.  Maxine was born in Yell County, Arkansas and graduated from Ola Arkansas High School. She received two degrees from North Texas University in Denton, Texas and taught elementary grades for 43 years;

     In honor of Barbara Saunders, employees at Saunders and Associates of Flower Mound are having a Carnival Day and Bake Sale on Saturday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to raise funds for their team at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas ½ Marathon benefiting the Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure.

As a parent of two sons, who also graduated from Lewisville High School, she have been an involved partner in her children’s’ education, participating in PTAs, booster clubs, community athletic organizations and countless volunteer activities. Hence, she has a vested interest in LISD.

  The seventh grade boys’ Division 1 basketball team from Clayton Downing Middle School won the end of season LISD district tournament held at Griffin Middle School this past weekend.  In addition to this tournament, the Downing team was undefeated, with a 14-0 record in season play, as well as winning the mid-season district tournament.

     Recently, Texas State Rep. Tan Parker announced that Speaker Joe Straus appointed Highland Village resident Tim Lindt to the newly created Advisory Panel on Recreational Boating Safety.  The panel, which was formed through legislation passed by Representative Parker, will spend the next ten months reviewing Texas' current state of lake recreational safety and make recommendations to the Legislature as to how to make future improvements.  Currently, Texas' number of boating fatalities per registered water vessel is nearly double the national average.

      On Saturday, March 6, at 7 p.m., the Youth Department of Temple Baptist Church at 2501 Northshore Blvd. in Flower Mound, will present “David Magee, Master of the Mind.” Magee, an Argyle resident who is continuously acclaimed as one of America’s Top Sleight of Hand Artists and manipulators of the human mind, will perform a one hour show and donate one hundred percent of the ticket sales to the Youth Department of the church. David Magee’s talents have taken him around the world. His many national television appearances have left audiences and talk show hosts (and this editor) asking the question he hears the most, “How is this possible?”

     Well after the snows of Valentine’s Day weekend had passed, Quest Middle School students took senior citizens tender loving care in the form of hand-made valentines and a hot breakfast served with friendly smiles. Though snow and ice prevented students carrying out the Lewisville Senior Center event as scheduled, “It’s never too late for love” as one senior responded with a large valentine in her hand.      Dr. Dennis Costa, Mayor Dianne Costa, Dr. Daryl Boyne and  Mrs. Adryana Boyne from Highland Village hosted a meet and greet event on Friday February 12, for Denton County residents to meet Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman. The event was attended by about 50 people, in spite of the bad weather, and Justice Guzman addressed the audience by explaining what the role of a Justice is and asking for their support for the upcoming election. Justice Guzman was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by Governor Rick Perry in October 2009, and has previously served as a judge for over a decade.
