Attorney Stephen Stephens

Lewisville probate attorney Stephen Stephens is running for Denton County Probate Judge.  Mr. Stephens, who has practiced probate law for over 30 years, says that the Probate Court serves a vital role for the citizens of Denton County and every citizen should be entitled to the fairest distribution of an estate that the law allows. All guardianships should focus on what is in the best interest of the ward. Says Mr. Stephens, “I strongly believe probate is not a party matter and the Judge must be somebody who really knows probate law.  It’s too important a job to be handed out on the basis of loyalty to the locally dominant political party. It is also important that attorneys appointed to probate matters are capable and experienced.  Denton County has some of the most knowledgeable and expert probate attorneys in the State,” adds Mr. Stephens. “When I am elected, I will assign appointments to probate matters around this large pool of skilled attorneys, irrespective of party label or party contributions.”

In addition, Mr. Stephens says, when he is elected, he will work towards reducing attorney’s fees in probate matters so that the heirs in estates receive more of the money they are entitled to. During his three decades as a probate attorney he has handled many probate and guardianship cases from routine to very complex.  In one case, an heir was about to receive none of her father’s estate, but ended up receiving nearly $200,000, her fair share. In addition to his long career as a probate attorney, Mr. Stephens has 10 years of judicial experience as a former Lewisville and Flower Mound Municipal Court Judge. He was the City Attorney for Hickory Creek and currently serves as Commissioner in Denton County Condemnation hearings.

Stephen Stephens enjoys flying, playing golf, reading political literature and working on home improvements.  He is a past member of Rotary clubs in Lewisville, Flower Mound, and Highland Village. He and his wife of 35 years, Nancy, have three daughters, Rebecca, Sarah, and Cara.
