ABOUT THE AUTHOR

After serving for 7 years on the Highland Village Planning and Zoning Commission, Jeannetta Collier has announced her intention to seek Place 3 on the City Council.  In addition to the P & Z, Collier has held and/or holds numerous city and civic volunteer positions and recently served as the Brooks Court HOA President for the northern-most section of the city. During a phone interview, Mrs. Collier stated that she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.

“We are in this together. Our city is strong, even during challenging times, and I know we can continue to implement positive solutions as a team,” she said.  When asked why she is running for a council seat, her reply was, “We’ve made great strides in opening channels of communication in Highland Village.  Yet there is always room for improvement.  My many years of experience in the business community, as a wife, mother & grandmother, as well as being someone whose volunteer record speaks for itself, places me in a uniquely well-qualified position to contribute to our city’s growth.” She went on to say that she plans to come to the city council with a firm resolve to keep taxes low, retain property values, bring in more economic development, retain the current businesses and keep Highland Village as one of the safest cities in North Texas.

Mrs. Collier, who has lived in HV since 1998, went on to state, “We must continue to be good stewards of our tax dollars, ever mindful that business retention is a top priority.  All of us have invested in Highland Village, whether buying a home, owning a business or just entrusting our family’s future in this community.  We are in this together and I ask that we all work together, get involved and give back as much as possible.  I pledge to be accessible, accountable and responsible in my service to Highland Village.”

The voters of Highland Village will be electing candidates to Places 3, 5, and 7 for a two (2) year term of office. The City Secretary’s Office will accept applications for those positions beginning Monday, February 9, through Monday, March 9, during the business week, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The general election will be held on Saturday, May 9. The polling place for early voting and Election Day will be at the Highland Village Municipal Complex, 1000 Highland Village Road. Hours on Election Day will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Experienced Candidate
Excellent Article: We are excited to see a community member with the experience Mrs. Collier offers placing her hat in the proverbial ring...someone with Jeannetta's experience and history of service to our community is certainly a welcome addition.

My Best to You
Good article. I am very interested in the election and will be following it throughout the year until May. Mrs. Collier, I believe your relevant experience, specifically with the planning and zoning committee, will bring a perspective that is valuable to our city during a time of development, and I wish you the best during your campaign.
