Four students from Coram Deo Academy High School at Flower Mound placed well in the TPSMEA (Texas Private School Music Educators Association) All State Band clinic and concert in San Antonio the weekend of Jan. 30. Senior Rebecca Musgrove made first chair on trumpet, the top position and had several solos during the concert. Senior Lauren Devoll made second chair and Sophomore Hannah Bowen made third chair playing clarinet. The clarinet section had 18 musicians, with the music divided into three sections, so the Coram Deo clarinetists both played the first part. “Interestingly, on the way down to San Antonio, Lauren and Hannah stated that they did not care where they were seated - they just wanted to be seated next to each other,” said Elizabeth Bowen, CDA band director. "I would say that Psalm 37:4 became a reality for these girls as God gave them the desires of their hearts." Out of only six available slots for tuba players, Freshman Josh McAlister made sixth-chair, an honor for a freshman. The clinic ended with a grand finale concert featuring All State Band, All State Choir and All State Orchestra. Students from private and parochial schools throughout the state participated.
