    Picture this: you earn the right to send your best relay team -- the 4X400 squad -- to the Class 4A State Championship meet, and you even post your best time for the year at 3:18.17 to finish fourth overall. But all that is taken away for stepping on the lane line once too many times during the race.

     Flower Mound’s Connor Adams was one of several local runners recently selected to the Dallas Morning News’ 2009 All-Area Track and Field team, which was announced last Thursday.

Kayla Denwood has a busy schedule ahead of her.

The 11-year-old Highland Village resident will be competing in two high-caliber track and field meets over the next several weeks. She will compete at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation state meet in San Antonio on July 25-27 and the Hershey’s Track and Field Games National meet in Hershey, PA on July 31-Aug. 3.

Members of the Guyer track program hope for quick times and huge success at this weekend’s Class 4A Region I meet in San Angelo.

The event – which will feature the best athletes in Region I with a chance to go to the state meet – will be held Friday and Saturday at San Angelo State University. Field events begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by relay/running prelims at 6 p.m.
