  The Denton Independent School District recognized its top readers in the third grade through its annual Hawkeye reading program, an educational plan established by the late Mildred McCauley Hawk. The district recognized three Hawkeye readers from each elementary school campus, including 15 from the Southern portion of the district and Lantana, giving Denton ISD a total of 60 top readers in the program for the 2009-10 school year.

     Wolf fest is a carnival, auction, silent auction and family fun night at EP Rayzor Elementary in Argyle.  It’s October 17, from 6 – 9:30 p.m. and it’s the biggest fundraiser of the year with over 1000 people attending from Argyle, Double Oak, Lantana, Copper Canyon and surrounding areas.

The students at E. P. Rayzor Elementary will be featured on the Junior Master Gardeners website for May. The first, second and fifth-grade classes will be featured for the accomplishments they have made as a JMG campus. During the fall, the E.P. Rayzor Wolves registered to be the first JMG School in Denton ISD.

There were 55 Guyer High band students who competed in the UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Contest conducted in Azle.

The DISD Board of Trustees has recently reviewed and rewritten the comprehensive goals of the Denton Independent School District. These goals serve as the overall platform from which all other planning occurs within the district. The Board currently has the draft of the goals online and is seeking community review and feedback.

Due to delays with the new sidewalk installation, orange barrels will be placed on the east side of Stacee Lane from Lantana Trail to Blanton Elementary, creating a four-foot wide walking path on the roadway, according to Fresh Water District representatives.

The Special Education Department of the Denton Independent School District is planning a special parent and community meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the board room of Central Services, 1307 N. Locust.

Guyer Lady Wildcats placed second overall at the Haw Relays track meet setting new records along the way. Brittany Shorter broke the school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85. Shorter also set the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.45.

Parents of children who will be five years old by Sept. One will have the opportunity to learn more about kindergarten during one of the round-ups slated during April and May at Denton Independent School District elementary schools.

Our hours on Tuesdays will be 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  We are doing this for a number of reasons, but primarily it is for: 1) students who need extra time with Library books for research; 2) students who don't have a computer at home (or maybe one computer at home for more than one child); and 3) for students to work on school projects, including group work.

Students in Denton Independent School District’s will be out of school for 10 calendar days for Spring Break. The doors to all schools will close at regular time Friday, March 14, and reopen at the regularly scheduled time on Tuesday, March 25.
