Jaguars not letting opportunity pass by

Flower Mound hopes to have healed up heading into a pivotal three-game stretch.

The Jaguars (3-1-3 in District 6-5A) enjoyed this past Tuesday off due to TAKS testing and seem rested as they host Southlake Carroll on Friday. Game time is slated for 7:45 p.m.

�We were fortunate to have beat them last time,� Flower Mound head coach David Doyle said. �They (Carroll) are, of course, still in the thick of things too so there is a lot riding on this game. We just wanted to take this time off to heal up and get ready for a big game.�

Jaguar girls so very close to playoffs

New Flower Mound girls� soccer coach Trina Hamner doesn�t want her team to just be considered a preseason standout. She wants them to know what its like to win when it matters most.

The Jaguars are very close to doing just that. They head into Friday�s District 6-5A showdown with Southlake Carroll sporting a 2-4-1 record in league play � good enough for a one-game cushion over rival Marcus for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Marcus boys ready for Coppell showdown

There will be a different twist to Friday�s District 6-5A showdown between the Marcus boys� soccer team and rival Coppell than what most fans are used to.

Quite simply, a win for Marcus would put them in the driver�s seat for a potential district title while a win for Coppell keeps the Cowboys barely alive in an already muddled playoff race. In previous years, a match up like this so late in the season usually meant a chance at the crown for both teams.

The Flower Mound girls� soccer team improved to 8-2-1 overall with its dominating 5-0 win over Allen on Tuesday. The Jaguars will host Hebron on Friday in the District 6-5A opener.

�It was definitely a nice way to end the preseason,� new Flower Mound head coach Trina Hamner said. �I think everyone found a way to contribute and that was nice to see.�

Marcus (4-1 heading into Thursday�s opening round of the Colleyville Heritage Tournament) saw its longtime field demolished during the offseason as LISD officials plan to construct a new varsity football stadium. The sheer size of the project � coupled with a new makeover for the school�s gymnasium -- forced the school district to not only eliminate the soccer field, but also the track and the baseball stadium.
