School routine is back

I think that for parents of school aged children, life has a rhythm that begins with the first day of school. My whole life instantly becomes centered around everything that goes along with school. At the same time though, I must say, I am excited to get a small part of my own self back. Even if it is just a couple of hours each day, they belong to me to do as I want. But the rhythm is still the driving force.

Should children be viewing MySpace?

I have said it before, and I am sure I will say it again; I am so lucky that I was the last one in my circle of friends to have children. I get to learn so much and watch their children grow. I get to be apart of discussions regarding issues that I have yet to encounter, and it forces me to be pro-active. I get to hear all view points and I get to share my thoughts on subjects where I have no experience. The one topic that we are currently debating is MySpace.

Gardens of the soul

I was pulling weeds in the flowerbeds when one of my neighbors was walking by. We smiled and waved as she walked on, but she turned around and said something to me that I am still not sure of the meaning; “Connecting with your yard is good for your soul, it reminds us of who we are.” Connecting with my yard, I think that the biggest connection that I have with my yard is the constant fight to keep it tidy. It’s almost like another child. But it made me wonder, what is good for my soul, what is good for the soul of women in general?

The trials of growing up

I always thought that the hardest part of life was the teenage years. Everything was new and exciting. A mystery to be solved around every corner, and discovering myself at each turn. It was also the beginning of what I now know as a life long struggle of walking on a tight wire and balancing each moment in my life. Twenty years later, at times, I long for the simplicity of being a child again.

I wanna be a little old lady

When I was a child I remember the ladies who were always cooking. I remember once asking my mom if they really ate that much. Every time I saw them there was always food. Their homes always smelled of cakes and bread baking, there were always eggs sitting on counters and traces of flour covered every inch of table space.

Most of my friends have children who are older than mine, with the majority being teenagers. It definitely has its perks, such as, built in babysitters. I get to keep up with all the new lingo and trends, and I get to watch and learn how they raise their children.
